Walnut Creek voters can learn how their ballots are protected at a free webinar on Thursday, Sept. 24, at 2 p.m.

The League of Women Voters of Diablo Valley, based in Walnut Creek, is co-hosting the Zoom event with the League of Women Voters of West Contra Costa County. The session, titled "Get the Nuts & Bolts about Voting Safety & Security," is part of the organizations' Community Conversations series, according to the Contra Costa Herald.

Two panelists will lead the discussion. Kristin Connelly, Contra Costa County's Clerk-Recorder and Registrar of Voters, will speak on voter access, election transparency and efforts to counter election misinformation. Connelly was reelected to the post in June. Helen Hutchison, a past president of the League of Women Voters of California, will draw on her work in initiative and referendum reform, ballot measures and redistricting.

The event is free.

The session is aimed at new voters and longtime election volunteers, according to the Antioch Herald. Gail Murray of the League of Women Voters of Diablo Valley described the webinar as an exploration of the safeguards that protect voting systems and help ensure every eligible vote is counted accurately.

Registration is required through the Contra Costa County Library website. Zoom access details will be emailed to registrants 24 hours before the program. The Contra Costa County Library asks for 72 hours' notice for anyone needing special accommodations.

The webinar will include simultaneous Spanish interpretation, and the library will provide closed captioning. A recording will be posted afterward on the library's YouTube channel and the LWVDV YouTube channel for anyone who cannot attend live.
