Makers Market sets up on Broadway Plaza Street Sept. 26

A free outdoor market featuring local artisans sets up along Broadway Plaza Street in Walnut Creek on Sept. 26, bringing handcrafted goods and live music to the downtown shopping center.

Makers Market, the Bay Area company founded by Suzy Ekman, is organizing the fair on the stretch of Broadway Plaza Street between Nordstrom and Macy's, according to Broadway Plaza's events page. The market runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free.

Vendors will sell jewelry, organic body products, home goods, apparel, glass, holiday candles, local honey and CBD products, the Bay Area Telegraph reported. Live music is scheduled throughout the day, and kids and pets are welcome.

The open-air setup fills the pedestrian stretch of Broadway Plaza Street, giving shoppers a chance to browse handmade items while surrounded by the center's restaurants and cafes.

Ekman's company, which says it vets products for design, durability and ethical production, operates permanent stores in Napa, Santana Row in San Jose, Lafayette, and Mill Valley. The Lafayette location, at the Shops at Lafayette Clocktower on Mount Diablo Boulevard, sits just a few miles from downtown Walnut Creek. Broadway Plaza's event listing also mentions a Makers Market shop inside the mall carrying goods from more than 100 additional makers, though the company's own store locator does not list a Broadway Plaza location.

The company describes its focus as American craftsmanship, according to its website. Ekman founded the business in the Bay Area, and its outdoor markets rotate among several locations.
