Walnut Creek residents have three chances in September to help shape the city's long-range blueprint for housing, transportation, parks and public services.

The city is hosting outreach events for its General Plan 2050 update at two farmers markets and a community workshop, according to City Manager Dan Buckshi's September update published Sept. 1. The plan runs through 2050.

The first stop is a booth at the Downtown Farmers Market on Sunday, Sept. 13, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. A second booth follows at the Shadelands Farmers Market on Saturday, Sept. 19, during the same hours.

The main event is a community workshop on Thursday, Sept. 24, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Civic Park Community Center Assembly Hall, 1375 Civic Drive. The workshop will include food, raffle prizes and activities for children, according to the city.

At all three events, residents can meet the General Plan project team and share ideas about the city's future.

Background on the update

A general plan is a state-required document that guides a city's growth and services. Walnut Creek's update will set policy on housing, transportation, parks, public services and sustainability for roughly the next 25 years.

The City Council endorsed a topic-based approach for community engagement on the update at its Oct. 7, 2025, meeting. The council, led by Mayor Kevin Wilk, then adopted a consultant services agreement for the project at its March 17 meeting.

How to get involved

Residents who cannot attend the September events can visit the General Plan 2050 project website for updates. The city is also collecting input on separate near-term council priorities for 2027 and 2028 through an online survey.

The Sept. 24 workshop is the most structured of the three events. No future engagement dates beyond September have been announced.
