Heidi Hernandez Gatty leads the six-candidate Walnut Creek School District (WCSD) Governing Board race with 23.38% of the vote in the first unofficial returns from the Nov. 3 election.

Eryn Holl King trails closely at 21.78%, and Geetha Ganti holds third place at 17.52%, according to unofficial county results as of 12:12 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4. The top three vote-getters will win seats on the board.

The remaining candidates: Aileen Ong at 15.20%, Wenlei Johnson at 15.07% and Rod Ehsani at 7.05%.

The reported totals were 9,425 votes for Hernandez Gatty, 8,782 for Holl King, 7,062 for Ganti, 6,127 for Ong, 6,077 for Johnson and 2,843 for Ehsani. Voters could select up to three candidates, so the percentages represent shares of candidate votes, not shares of voters.

Those numbers could shift. The Contra Costa County Elections Division announced Nov. 5 that an estimated 184,200 ballots remained unprocessed countywide, according to the Contra Costa Herald. That estimate does not establish how many ballots remain in the WCSD race.

Less than two percentage points separate Hernandez Gatty and Holl King. The gap between Ganti in third and Ong in fourth is wider, at about 2.3 points.

Acalanes Area 1

In the Acalanes Union High School District Trustee Area 1 race, Stacey Schweppe leads with 58.51% to Nithini Iyengar’s 41.49% in the early returns, according to Contra Costa News.
