Diablo Ballet says very limited seating remains for the Nov. 14 matinee of “The Nutcracker Suite” at the Lesher Center for the Arts in Walnut Creek.
Julia Adam’s expanded two-act production opens the company’s 33rd season with three performances Nov. 13-14, according to Diablo Ballet’s production page.
Performances begin at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13, and at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14. The production includes one intermission.
Adam first choreographed the production in 2019, BroadwayWorld reported. The company says this season’s expanded version includes new choreography and costumes.
A San Francisco setting
The story takes place at San Francisco’s Fairmont Hotel in the 1950s. Clara and the Diablo family arrive for Christmas Eve, beginning an adventure in which hotel staff and family members become characters from the holiday ballet.
Clara’s uncle Drosselmeyer appears as the concierge, while a bellhop becomes the Nutcracker. Other characters transform into the Sugar Plum Fairy, the Cavalier and the Snow Queen.
Party follows Saturday matinee
Ticket holders attending the Saturday 2 p.m. performance are invited to a complimentary party afterward in the Lesher Center lobby.
The event includes an opportunity to meet cast members, watch a ballet class demonstration and collect autographs, according to Diablo Ballet.
The company also plans an 11 a.m. school performance Friday, Nov. 13, for students from Title I schools served by its PEEK Outreach Program, BroadwayWorld reported.
