Northgate names 38 to girls' flag football rosters

Thirty-eight Northgate High School students earned spots on the Broncos' 2026 girls' flag football teams after three days of tryouts the coaching staff called extremely difficult to judge.

The cuts are final.

The program posted its varsity and JV rosters on Wednesday, Aug. 12, naming 17 varsity players and 21 on the junior varsity squad. Tryouts ran Aug. 10–12 at the Castle Rock fields behind the Northgate football field under Coach Ahn, as we reported when Northgate opened fall flag football tryouts on July 31.

In a statement on the school's athletics site, the coaching staff said roster decisions came with hours of discussion and were very difficult to make, praising the effort and competitive nature shown by every athlete who tried out. The program welcomed newcomers with no prior flag football experience alongside returning players.

Two varsity selections bring multi-sport credentials: Jenna Moorhouse and Grace York both earned third-team All-League honors in Diablo Athletic League girls' track and field earlier this year.

Varsity (17 players): Gianna Antonelli Mayse, Keeley Brennan, Samantha Carfi, Yeriel Cheon, Anisa Climaco, Avery Dell, Layla Devincenzi, Kailey Durbin, Brooklyn Espland, Parker Gabriel, Jenna Moorhouse, Makena Oberbruner, Lia-Ixel Perez, Leah Rivera Mundo, Yaiza Santana Ogden, Liliana Silva and Grace York.

JV (21 players): LeiNahje Aguilar, Halle Barney, Gloria Christian, Ayda Halperin, Tehya Hernandez, Alice Hoversen, Georgia Lawrence, Haley Lowney, Eila Mackay, Gabrielle Marques, Aliana Montes De Oca, Lara Nasri, Sienna Reed, Katelyn Rhodes, Alexa Rogers, Charlotte Rohlf, Ava Smith, Tatiana Velasquez-Martinez, Audrey Wirig, Talia Zhivago and Anabella Zotti.

The Broncos open their season Monday, Aug. 24, at San Ramon Valley. JV takes the field at 6:15 p.m., with varsity following at 7:45 p.m.

Meanwhile, Northgate athletes will benefit from a new field under construction on campus, according to a back-to-school message from MDUSD Superintendent Dr. Adam Clark, though no completion date has been announced.
