Brazil-founded Italian-style gelato chain Bacio di Latte plans a grand opening at 1500 Mt. Diablo Blvd. in downtown Walnut Creek on Dec. 11.

Brian Hirahara of BH Development, the building's developer, shared the planned date in a Thursday, Oct. 8 email to Bay Area Telegraph.

"Bacio is planning a Grand Opening on 12/11/26 but hope to open sooner," Hirahara wrote, leaving the door open for a soft opening before the official launch.

The shop will fill half of the former Vineyard Vines space on the ground floor of the three-story building that also houses Teleferic Barcelona, Rooftop Bar and Slice House. Hirahara said the space is being divided into two units. Chagee Modern Teahouse, a Chinese tea chain with more than 6,000 locations worldwide, will take the corner unit. Chagee had put up signage at the location as of Oct. 6, according to Diablo Magazine, but that report did not give an opening date for the tea shop.

Bacio di Latte's Walnut Creek location is expected to carry more than 22 regular gelato flavors, including pistachio and Giandujotto, a chocolate-and-hazelnut combination, according to Bay Area Telegraph’s June report on the company announcement. The shop is also expected to feature an affogato bar pairing gelato with espresso and Ciocchino treats, which combine gelato with Nutella or pistachio cream and crunchy nuts. The company’s menu confirms those dessert descriptions. The company says it uses milk and cream from Clover Sonoma family farms in Sonoma County.

Founded in 2011 by brothers Edoardo and Luigi Tonolli, Bacio di Latte started on São Paulo's Rua Oscar Freire and had more than 190 locations across Brazil in 2024, according to The Argonaut.

The Walnut Creek location was expected to open in September, according to a Beyond the Creek report published in June.

The Oct. 9 Bay Area Telegraph report did not provide a date for a possible soft opening.
