Two Northgate High School fall sports programs begin tryouts the same week, giving Walnut Creek student-athletes a chance to compete even without prior experience.

Girls' water polo and flag football tryouts both open Monday, August 10, according to announcements posted July 30 on NorthgateBroncos.org. The school's athletics schedule lists JV and varsity squads for both programs.

Flag football: Aug. 10–12

Coach Ahn's flag football tryouts run three days, Monday through Wednesday, August 10–12, from 3:45 to 6:00 p.m. at the Castle Rock fields behind the Northgate football field.

Players need to register online at NorthgateBroncos.org and have their athletic physical approved by the athletic department before they're eligible. Coach Ahn's announcement specified that athletes should bring cleats, mouthguards, shorts with no pockets, and plenty of water.

The Broncos open their season August 24 at San Ramon Valley, with JV at 6:15 p.m. and varsity at 7:45 p.m.

Girls' water polo: Aug. 10–14

Water polo tryouts span five days, Monday through Friday, August 10–14, at the Northgate Aquatic Center. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday sessions run 6:00–8:00 p.m.; Tuesday and Thursday sessions run 3:45–5:45 p.m. Attendance at all sessions is required.

The program does not require prior water polo experience, but athletes must demonstrate strong swimming skills and the ability to tread water. Registration at NorthgateBroncos.org and an approved Physical Clearance Form are mandatory. Families will also be expected to fulfill volunteer obligations during the season.

A scrimmage against Campolindo is scheduled for Saturday, August 15, just one day after tryouts close. The JV squad hosts Encinal on Wednesday, August 26.

Registration

Both programs share the same registration portal at NorthgateBroncos.org and the same core requirement: an approved athletic physical on file with the school before tryouts begin. With the Mt. Diablo Unified School District's first day of school falling August 6, families have a narrow window to complete paperwork.

Flag football's first game is two weeks after tryouts end. Water polo's scrimmage comes the day after.
