Mt. Diablo Unified School District’s graduation rate increased to 93.5% in its 2026 California School Dashboard results, earning a Green rating for graduation.
The district includes Northgate High School in Walnut Creek. The figures describe districtwide performance, rather than Northgate’s individual results.
Superintendent Adam Clark shared the findings in an Oct. 29 message to families, following an Oct. 28 presentation to the district’s Governing Board.
Graduation and readiness improve
The share of graduates classified as prepared for college or a career increased to 50.3%, Clark reported.
Among English learners, 51.8% made progress learning English. Clark also reported improved English-learning progress among long-term English learners.
The chronic absenteeism rate declined to 16.8%. The state’s Dashboard attendance indicator covers transitional kindergarten through eighth grade.
English and math remain challenges
The district’s English language arts and mathematics results held steady but remained Orange, the second-lowest of the Dashboard’s five performance levels.
The ratings range from Blue, the highest, through Green, Yellow and Orange to Red. They reflect both current performance and change from the previous year.
“In English Language Arts and in mathematics, our results held steady but remain Orange,” Clark wrote. “These are our students, and closing these gaps is our responsibility.”
Clark also said some student groups fell below the state’s 95% testing-participation threshold, which can lower their reported academic results. He urged families to make sure students attend school on testing days this spring.
The district met the state standard in all five local indicators, Clark said. Those indicators cover areas including academic standards, access to courses, family engagement and school climate.
