BODYROK, a Pilates-reformer fitness chain, plans to open Sept. 19 at 1380 N. California Blvd. in downtown Walnut Creek.

The grand opening is set for Saturday, Sept. 19, and Sunday, Sept. 20, according to an Instagram post from the studio's East Bay account. The studio is offering founding memberships before the opening, according to the same post.

The studio will occupy ground-floor retail space in The Rise, a mixed-use building at the corner of North California Boulevard and Cypress Street. The building has 77 residences above street-level shops. Barry's Bootcamp already operates in the same building, and a Lockehouse commercial leasing flyer from April marketed the property as a "wellness destination" anchored by both fitness tenants.

The Walnut Creek location is part of BODYROK East Bay, owned by Erika Whalen and Will Whalen. The couple operates more than a dozen BODYROK studios across the Bay Area and Seattle, with existing East Bay locations in Alamo, Berkeley, Oakland and Rockridge, the Bay Area Telegraph reported Sept. 7.

BODYROK offers 45-minute classes on proprietary reformer machines that the company describes as a higher-energy alternative to traditional Pilates, according to the Bay Area Telegraph.

The San Francisco-based company, founded in 2012 by co-founder and CEO Jake Irion, hit 100 studios as of August. In an Aug. 3 interview with The Pilates Journal, Irion said the brand's next target is 200 locations, with international expansion already underway in London.

"I get nervous every time a franchisee signs a lease," Irion told The Pilates Journal in August, reflecting on the company's franchise expansion.

The building sits about half a mile from the Walnut Creek BART station, with a Walk Score of 85. The BODYROK East Bay Instagram account announced pop-up events throughout September at the Walnut Creek location with Goop Kitchen and Fei Fei Tea.
