Walnut Creek residents have until Sept. 15 to tell the City Council what matters most to them in 2027 and 2028.

The city opened an online survey asking residents to share ideas that will help shape the council's priorities, budget and work plan for the next two-year cycle. Responses are due by 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15. The survey is available at WalnutCreekCA.gov/priorities.

The council will formally set its two-year priorities in early 2027, according to the City Manager's September update. Community feedback from the survey will inform those discussions.

The effort traces back to a May 19 council meeting, where members reviewed a progress report on the current 2025-26 priorities and approved community outreach for the next cycle. Those current priorities are economic development and downtown vitality, environmental sustainability and climate action, the General Plan update, park and recreation facilities, and public safety and social wellness.

Walnut Creek operates on a two-year budget cycle. The council adopted its current operating budget, covering fiscal years 2025-26 and 2026-27, on June 17, 2025.

The survey deadline falls on the same day as the next regular council meeting, scheduled for 6 p.m. at City Hall, 1666 N. Main St.

The council includes Mayor Kevin Wilk, Mayor Pro Tem Matt Francois and council members Cindy Darling, Craig DeVinney and Cindy Silva. Whether members will discuss survey results at the Sept. 15 meeting or at a later date has not been announced.

The city's General Plan update team, working on the long-range plan called "Walnut Creek 2050," will also be gathering community input at the Downtown Farmers Market on Sunday, Sept. 13, and the Shadelands Farmers Market on Saturday, Sept. 19. A community workshop is set for Thursday, Sept. 24, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Civic Park Community Center, 1375 Civic Drive.
