Walnut Creek residents can get a free primer on what's changing in election administration and voting access before they fill out their November ballots.

The Walnut Creek Library Foundation is hosting "2026 Elections – A Changing Landscape" on Tuesday, Sept. 8, from 7 to 8 p.m. in the Oak View Room at the Downtown Walnut Creek Library, 1644 N Broadway. The event is free.

Denise Coane and Dr. Rhiannon Shires of the League of Women Voters of Diablo Valley will lead the session. The League of Women Voters event page describes the program as a nonpartisan conversation covering changes to election administration and voting access at the national level, in California and Contra Costa County. The discussion will also touch on new state and federal legislation and recent Supreme Court decisions affecting elections, according to News 24-680.

No specific court cases or bills have been named in advance.

The forum is part of the Foundation's "Live! From the Library" series, which brings authors, scholars and community leaders to the library on the second Tuesday of each month. The Contra Costa Library is co-hosting the Sept. 8 program. Minuteman Press and the Friends of the Walnut Creek Library sponsor the series.

The timing lines up with Walnut Creek's Nov. 3 municipal election. According to the city's election page, vote-by-mail ballots go out the week of Oct. 5, and Oct. 19 is the last day to register to vote.

The Foundation named Joanna Grossman as executive director after she served as interim executive director starting in January. Grossman previously led the Walnut Creek Education Foundation.
