Firefighters extinguished a vegetation fire in Walnut Creek on Tuesday, July 28, capping a demanding two-week stretch that has kept Contra Costa County crews busy across the East Bay.

The fire was reported via what appears to be a Contra Costa County Fire Protection District Instagram post, shared by Claycord.com at 8:03 p.m. Tuesday. The post indicated the fire had been fully extinguished rather than merely contained, suggesting crews stopped it before significant spread.

Con Fire has not released the fire's exact location within Walnut Creek, the acreage burned, the time crews were dispatched, or the cause. The district's online news page returned an error when checked Wednesday, July 29, and no spokesperson has issued a statement about this specific incident.

Third fire event in two weeks

The Tuesday fire is the third wildland fire event to involve Con Fire crews since mid-July.

The Morgan Fire near Mount Diablo ignited Friday, July 17, and burned 51 acres along Morgan Territory and Marsh Creek roads before reaching full containment Monday, July 20. Cal Fire and Con Fire responded. One firefighter was injured. The cause remains under investigation.

Days later, Con Fire sent crews under mutual aid to the Little Fire near Sunol, which burned 1,007 acres. As we reported July 22, that blaze sent visible smoke over Walnut Creek and injured one firefighter.

PG&E issued Public Safety Power Shutoff warnings for Contra Costa County on July 15–16 due to high winds and dry conditions, a sign of the elevated fire risk across the region this summer.
