Sur La Table plans to reopen at Broadway Plaza in Walnut Creek in late fall 2026, filling a prominent storefront that has sat empty for more than three years.

The kitchenware retailer's store page lists 1205 Broadway Plaza with a status of "Opening Late Fall." No specific date has been announced. As of Sept. 29, the page listed the store as closed every day.

The new location occupies a 6,000-plus-square-foot space overlooking Mt. Diablo Boulevard that formerly housed P.F. Chang's, according to Diablo Magazine. P.F. Chang's closed the location on June 23, 2023, when its lease expired, a company representative confirmed to SFGATE at the time. Broadway Plaza representatives told Diablo Magazine in May that the store could open as soon as the end of 2026.

The new store sits in a different space from the one Sur La Table previously occupied at Broadway Plaza. That earlier store was expected to close by the end of March 2022, according to a report from Beyond the Creek at the time. The old location was part of a stretch that included Janie & Jack and the Makers Market, Beyond the Creek reported.

One detail has shifted since the spring. Diablo Magazine reported in May that early word from Broadway Plaza representatives was that the new store would host cooking classes. Sur La Table's Walnut Creek store page now says no classes are offered at the location, a detail also confirmed by Patch.

Sur La Table is known for its cooking classes at other locations around the country. The absence of classes at the Walnut Creek store marks a departure from what Broadway Plaza representatives initially described.

Until the Walnut Creek store opens, the nearest Sur La Table locations in California are in Berkeley, about 14.5 miles away, and Santa Rosa, according to the company's store directory.

No firm opening date or construction timeline has been announced beyond the "late fall" status on the store's own page and the "end of the year" estimate Broadway Plaza representatives gave Diablo Magazine in May.
