Families looking to donate school supplies, clothing, or sporting equipment before the 2026-27 school year can drop items off at Mount Diablo Unified School District's SOAR office in Concord, which serves vulnerable students across the district, including those at Northgate High School in Walnut Creek.

The Support Office for Access and Resources, known as SOAR, is accepting ongoing donations at the Willow Creek Center, Room A-1, 1026 Mohr Lane in Concord, according to a district announcement. The office is open on school days from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

MDUSD's school year begins Thursday, Aug. 6.

The program serves foster youth, justice-involved youth, newcomer and refugee students, LGBTQIA+ students, and others facing extreme circumstances.

SOAR is specifically requesting children's and teens' pants and shorts, sporting equipment, blankets and towels (new or gently used), camping gear such as tents and sleeping bags, gently used bikes in all sizes, and standard school supplies including backpacks, notebooks, and binders.

Families in need can also visit SOAR to pick up limited supplies on a first-come, first-served basis. Available items include backpacks, school supplies, clothing, and hygiene kits. Assistance with MediCal, CalFresh, and CalWorks enrollment is available by appointment.

Cash donations are accepted via check, cash at the office, or Venmo at @MDUSDSOAR. The district describes the donation period as ongoing, with no set deadline.

The SOAR program has run at least one prior annual drive, collecting items through January 2026.
