Families looking for a low-cost Friday night out can head to Joybound People & Pets for a big-screen showing of the Pixar film "Up" on Friday, July 17, at 6 p.m.

The screening kicks off at the nonprofit's Pavilion at 2890 Mitchell Drive in Walnut Creek and runs until 7:30 p.m. It's part of Joybound's summer Community Movie Night series, which continues on Friday evenings through August, according to the organization's event page.

Admission is a suggested sliding-scale donation of $5 to $10 per person. Tickets are available on Eventbrite, and proceeds support Joybound's rescue, adoption and community programs.

Concessions, beverages and treats will be available for purchase on site. Parking is free. Dogs are welcome.

Joybound People & Pets, formerly known as the Animal Rescue Foundation, has operated from its Mitchell Drive campus since 1991 and has facilitated more than 53,000 pet adoptions, according to a Walnut Creek Chamber of Commerce event listing.

Anyone hoping to meet a new four-legged family member can arrive early. The adoption floor is open weekdays from noon to 7 p.m. and weekends from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., so Friday evening moviegoers can browse adoptable dogs and cats before the show starts.

The next two screenings in the series are "GOAT" on Friday, July 24, and "Ratatouille" on Friday, July 31. Both start at 6 p.m. at the same location.
