A fire broke out at Lettuce Restaurant & Catering on Locust Street in downtown Walnut Creek on Wednesday morning, Aug. 19, after workers inside the building reported hearing an explosion.
No injuries were reported.
Fire crews knocked down most of the blaze and probed the structure for extensions, according to News24-680, which published a photo from the scene. The restaurant sits at the corner of Civic Drive and Locust Street, at 1632 Locust St.
Workers who were inside the business at the time told responders they heard an "explosion" before the fire started. The cause remains under investigation.
The Contra Costa County Fire Protection District responded to the incident. The district had not publicly released details on the number of units dispatched, the time of the initial call or the extent of damage to the building as of Wednesday afternoon.
Lettuce is a downtown establishment known for its lunch and dinner menu of sandwiches, salads, pasta and soups.
