Downtown Walnut Creek adds murals, concerts and new businesses

Downtown Walnut Creek is stacking up new attractions, with fresh public murals appearing on building walls, free concerts wrapping up at Broadway Plaza and fall class registration now live.

Mayor Kevin Wilk spotlighted the developments in his Tuesday, Aug. 4 Mayor's Minute video, posted by the city's official account on X.

Fall Arts + Rec registration is open

Walnut Creek Arts + Recreation's Fall 2026 registration opened Wednesday, Aug. 5 at noon. The catalog spans fitness, arts, technology, golf, dance and lifelong learning for all ages. Youth offerings include ceramics, STEM, drama and dance; adults can sign up for ceramics, improv, dance and digital media.

Broadway Plaza summer concerts wind down

Broadway Plaza's free Summer Concert Series has two performances left: Aug. 13 and Aug. 20. The city's August newsletter credited Broadway Plaza for sponsoring the series, which brings live music to the shopping center's outdoor spaces. Two new businesses get ribbon cuttings

MIXT, a San Francisco-born fast-casual salad and bowl chain, opened at 1105 S. California Blvd. on July 14 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 3 p.m. that day. Adria Giacomelli of Lockehouse Retail Group brokered the lease that brought the restaurant to South California Boulevard. The location is open daily, 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Milky Flakes, the frozen-milk shaved ice and soft serve shop at 1399 N. Main St. that opened in early July and sold out of its Japanese Hokkaido milk soft serve within weeks, also received an official ribbon-cutting ceremony.
