Walnut Creek City Council candidate Brendan Moran is inviting residents to grab a beer and tell him what they think the city should protect, improve, or change.

Moran is hosting "Think Local. Drink Local." on Saturday, July 25, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at Calicraft Brewing Company in the Shadelands district, an event he's promoted with an Instagram reel touting his excitement to hear from residents. The drop-in event is billed as a casual community conversation where attendees can talk with the candidate or leave a written note in a suggestion box, according to an announcement published Thursday, July 23, by News24-680.

No formal agenda has been announced. The format is come-and-go.

Who is Brendan Moran?

Moran, a planning commissioner, small business owner, and father of three, announced his candidacy on Feb. 17. He is running in the Tuesday, Nov. 3 general election on a platform centered on affordability, mobility, livability, and public safety, according to his campaign announcement.

He has also served on the city's Parks, Recreation and Open Space Commission.

In his February announcement, Moran said he wants to bring "thoughtful leadership, transparency, and common sense" to decisions about housing, traffic, public safety, and growth in Walnut Creek.

Election context

The Walnut Creek City Council voted unanimously on Tuesday, June 2, to consolidate its election with the statewide general election on Nov. 3. The candidate filing period opened Monday, July 13, and runs through 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7, per Contra Costa County elections records.

No other declared candidates for the Walnut Creek council race were confirmed in available public filings as of Thursday, July 23. The current council consists of Mayor Kevin Wilk, Mayor Pro Tem Matt Francois, and council members Cindy Darling, Craig DeVinney, and Cindy Silva.
