A 32-year-old woman died in a single-vehicle crash near the entrance to Rossmoor on Thursday, Aug. 13, and Walnut Creek police say the cause remains under investigation.

Officers responded to the crash at Rossmoor Parkway and Stanley Dollar Drive at approximately 5:06 a.m., according to the Walnut Creek Police Department. The woman was the car's lone occupant and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her identity and hometown have not been released.

The department's Major Accident Investigation Team is handling the investigation. No additional details have been released beyond the department's initial announcement. The cause of the crash has not been determined, and police have not said whether speed, impairment or a medical emergency played a role.

The intersection sits at the entrance to Rossmoor, a gated active-adult community home to roughly 9,800 residents aged 55 and older. Stanley Dollar Drive branches off Rossmoor Parkway and leads to several of the community's major buildings, including the Rossmoor Event Center, Creekside Clubhouse and Dollar Clubhouse, according to Hoodline. Police have not indicated whether the woman lived in the community or was passing through.

The investigation is ongoing, and an update from the Major Accident Investigation Team is expected as toxicology and autopsy results become available from the Contra Costa County Coroner's Office.
