Walnut Creek residents who want to vote in the Nov. 3 general election have until Monday, Oct. 19, to register or update their voter registration online.
Residents who miss the deadline can still register and vote in person through Election Day.
The deadline applies to new registrations and to voters who need to update a name or address, according to KQED, which detailed the deadline and late-registration options. Voters can register or re-register at registertovote.ca.gov before the cutoff. To check whether an existing registration is current, voters can visit voterstatus.sos.ca.gov.
Contra Costa County Clerk-Recorder and Registrar of Voters Kristin B. Connelly urged voters in an Oct. 5 press release to complete and return their ballots as soon as they receive them. The county announced that ballots were in the mail Oct. 5, according to the release.
Voters who have not received their ballot by Oct. 19 should call the elections office at 925-335-7800 or email [email protected], according to the county.
If you miss the deadline
Residents who miss Monday's online cutoff can still register and vote through Same Day Registration, also called conditional registration. That option is available in person at the Contra Costa County elections office at 555 Escobar St. in Martinez, at regional early voting sites and at polling places through 8 p.m. on Election Day.
Residents should check the county’s regional early-voting page for current locations and hours.
What's on the ballot
The Walnut Creek City Council voted unanimously on Oct. 6 to endorse four ballot measures, according to draft council meeting minutes. Council members DeVinney, Silva, Mayor Pro Tem Francois and Mayor Wilk voted yes on all four:
- Measure T would change the city treasurer from an elected to an appointed position.
- Measure W would establish an Acalanes Union High School District (AUHSD) parcel tax of $168 per parcel annually for eight years, projected to generate about $6 million annually. The measure includes exemptions and is on the ballot for voters within AUHSD boundaries, according to the district’s FAQ.
- Measure RTM, the Regional Transit Measure, would enact a sales tax across five Bay Area counties for 14 years to fund transit operations. The rate would be 0.5% in Contra Costa, Alameda, San Mateo and Santa Clara counties and 1% in San Francisco.
- Proposition 1, the Veterans and Affordable Housing Bond Act of 2026, would authorize $11.25 billion in state bonds for affordable housing and veteran housing programs.
Returning your ballot
Voters who already have their ballots can return them by mail or drop them in one of the county's 43 official drop boxes. The county recommends mailing ballots no later than Oct. 23 to ensure they are postmarked by Election Day. Mailed ballots must be postmarked by Nov. 3 and received by Nov. 10, according to state election deadlines. Drop boxes accept ballots through 8 p.m. on Nov. 3.
Voters can track their ballot at WheresMyBallot.sos.ca.gov.
