Contra Costa County residents can get free legal advice, health coverage help, and criminal record clearing from more than 20 organizations at a single afternoon event in downtown Martinez on Thursday, Sept. 10.
Several participating groups are headquartered in Walnut Creek.
The Contra Costa County Community Resource Fair runs from 1 to 4 p.m. at 1026 Escobar St. No sign-up is required, and attendees can stop by for 15 minutes or stay the full afternoon, according to the county's event listing.
The county notes additional organizations will be announced before the fair.
Walnut Creek connections
Meals on Wheels Diablo Region, based at 390 N. Wiget Lane in Walnut Creek, will staff a table with information on meal delivery, care management, fall prevention, and its Friendly Visitor program. The nonprofit has served Contra Costa County seniors for more than 50 years and reports delivering more than 700,000 meals annually.
The Contra Costa County Public Defender's Office, which maintains a Walnut Creek branch at 2020 N. Broadway, will share details about its Clean Slate Program. The program helps residents clear criminal records to improve access to jobs and housing. Residents who have already qualified for a Clean Slate hearing can appear at the Contra Costa Superior Court courthouse the same day, according to the county event page.
Services for seniors and families
Contra Costa Senior Legal Services will offer free civil legal help to county residents age 60 and older, covering housing preservation, elder abuse prevention, consumer protection, and simple wills.
Contra Costa Health staff will cover Medi-Cal enrollment, reentry services, Black maternal health, and a mini-wellness workshop across multiple tables. Planned Parenthood Northern California will provide information on affordable health care, pregnancy, birth control, and mental health services.
Other confirmed participants
The District Attorney's Office Victim Services team will attend with facility dogs Bear and Fenner. The Clerk-Recorder Elections Department will offer voter registration. The Community Warning System will sign up attendees for county emergency alerts. Other confirmed groups include the Family Justice Center, Project Second Chance adult literacy, Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Oakland for immigration legal services, and the California Highway Patrol.
The fair is free and open to all county residents.
