A fire that broke out overnight Monday into Tuesday, July 21, caused extensive structural damage to Brother Sister by Vic's on Pacheco Boulevard in Martinez, forcing the family-owned comfort food restaurant to close indefinitely, owners Rosie and JB Morello confirmed in a Facebook statement that day.

No one was injured. The Morellos credited alert neighbors with quickly calling the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District, saying the fast response helped prevent an even larger disaster.

"We appreciate the quick, professional and empathetic work of Contra Costa Fire," the owners wrote.

The fire's cause has not been publicly announced. Con Fire has not released an official incident report or statement on the blaze.

The Morellos said the fire caused significant damage on its own, but water and what they described as "additional mitigation" compounded the destruction. They thanked customers and supporters who reached out with phone calls, text messages, and personal visits in the hours after the blaze.

Brother Sister by Vic's opened March 25 as a rebrand of the original Vic's, a popular brunch and cocktail spot. The new concept featured a casual outdoor patio with a comfort food menu including Detroit-style pizza, burgers, chicken wings, and carryovers from the original menu like bourbon barbecue ribs and fish and chips. The restaurant had been open less than four months before the fire struck.

No timeline for rebuilding or reopening has been announced. The Morellos wrote: "As you can imagine, we will be closed indefinitely."
